Ingredients
  

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  • Add in the eggs, one at a time, and mix well after each addition.
  • Mix in the vanilla extract and red food coloring.
  • Gradually add in the dry ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, until the mixture is well combined and smooth.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the cookie dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
  • Using your favorite cookie cutters, cut out shapes from the dough and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, until they are set but not browned.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
